Whenever you are in Crete, go to Finika Stables! Me and my sister are in Chersonissos ever year.. And when we are there we go atleast 3 times riding with Gregory (or Abdull/Timmy this year).
They offer u te LOVELY horses. Easy to ride for everyone, even whithout experience. The tour is FUN and BEAUTIFULL. WIth a stop for nice organgejuice, raki and some fruits.. Nice lunches made by his sweet wife or sister.
But the best thing they offer is there GREAT HOSPITALITY.

Gregory, the man who owns the horses, is a wonderful, attentive, and personable guide, he genuinely wants to give you the best experience possible. He took our cameras and took pictures for us as we rode into the mountains, and since I went in the winter and none of the restaurants are open, he took us to his home and his wife cooked for us. He is the shining example of Greek hospitality, so you can experience a beautiful view and the locals at the same time. The horses are well trained, and he tries very hard to accommodate your needs. I wouldn't ride with anyone else!

Would strongly recommend this tour. We went for the evening option which included horse riding in the mountains - there is a wagon if you want a break from the riding followed by a BBQ, wine, riding in the paddock if you want and loads of fun!
Gregory (Can't decide if he is so named for the similarity to 'gregarious' or 'gregorious' (From the Latin "gregrius", belonging to sex....) is the most attentive host you could want, providing you can take his 'colourful' language and sexual references! His personality is not for the prudish!! He understands that your holiday means a lot and does everythihng he can to make sure you have a good time.
We met him at his Hersonissos stables where we waited for another couple. We got a drink from the bar while we waited, which he wouldn't let us pay for. Once the other couple had arrived, we followed him on his rounds to collect the others from nearby hotels (we had travelled from further afield) until we eventually arrived at his Heraklion stables. After a very quick safety demonstration we were assigned our horses and set off into the mountains at sunset - fantastic views! We stopped for refreshments where Gregory took or photos - whether we wanted him to or not!!
After this we headed back to the stables for our BBQ, made by Gregory and his staff. Free wine flowed, plates flew and Gregory was on form, making the whole experience a great laugh and definitely a night to remember.
Love to you Gregory, we'll definitely be back if we return to Crete! x

Hi Gregory you crazy man. Fantastic day out, value for money, graet company, superbly kept horses and other animals in a beautiful farm/ranch setting. The ride was breathtaking, the halftime refresh,ments most welcome and the food and hospitality on return were unsurpassed. Good luck for the future with your business, who knows we may meet again. Thanks for intoducing us to all that is Cretan.
My partner and I visited Crete July 2010 and I managed to persuade him to come horse riding with me. We choose the "Finikia Stables Evening Tour". The price was 60 Euros per person this included the transfers there and back, 3 and a half hours riding in the moutains with a stop off of refreshments and a BBQ at the stables on return. We were picked up at 5.15pm by the stable owner Gregory and I can honestly say he made our trip, he was the funniest guy we had ever met. We arrived at the stables, which is approx 40 minutes from Hersonissoss (is just outside of Heraklion), and we allowed to roam around and meet all the horses, cats, kittens and his lovely rescued street dog named "Hotdog". All of the animals were well looked after especially the horses who were not the usual skinny horses you see abroad. We were then given a mini riding lesson and allocated with our horses. Gregory sold refreshments at a very reasonable price (50 cents for a bottle of water) and even said if people didn't have the money and wanted refreshments ust to take them. We started the ride up the mountains following a horse led cart (for the less experienced riders to use when they became tired). The views were excellent and we were surrounding by olive trees and grape vinyards. We arrived at the top of the mountain where "Gregory" provided us with homemade raki, watermelon and grapes. We then had a slow ride back lit by moonlight, which was very romantic. On arrival back at the stables the BBQ was already on the go. We were all sat on a long table outside which was great to get to know the other visitors on the tour. We were provided with homemade wine (which was amazing) and homemade raki. Then came the food and plenty of it. All homemade, stuffed tomatoes, traditional greek meatballs in sauce, pork slovakia, greek salad, tzatziki, chips and watermelon. They was so much food I could hardly move after it. After the meal we were able to purchase very reasonable priced photographs of us on the horses at 4 Euros each (also you were able to take as many of your own photographs as you wished with all the animals free of charge). Gregory also let the experienced riders take the horses into the school after the BBQ and have a trot and a canter which was great fun. We arrived back at our hotel at approx 11.45pm. Overall my partner and I felt this trip was amazing value and and excellent way to spend an evening on our holiday. We shall be returning to Crete next year and definatly will be going back to "Finikia Stables"!!!! See you next year Gregory and I would like to ride Cherokee again!!!

We went a couple of weeks ago. Great horses, plenty and very good food, was a lovely experience.
